It is with great sadness we report on the death of Geoff Harrison, a past member and friend of the band.
Geoff who has been ill for some time, passed away peacefully on Wednesday 15th October with his wife Anne by his side.
Geoff, who has played for many bands over his banding career, has frequently played euphonium with the Middleton band and was a permanent member for a few years. Notably attending the National Finals with us in 2007 and helping to secure our 3rd section national champion performance. and promotion to the 2nd section.
In December 2009, Peter Bates, Chairman of the NWABBA, paid a ‘surprise’ visit to the band’s annual Christmas concert at Middleton cricket club, to award Geoff with a special Diploma of honour and long service medal to commemorate Geoff’s 60 years service to the banding movement.
Geoff later went on to play for West Yorkshire brass until his health declined.
Geoff was a popular member and friend of the band. Geoff has touched the hearts of all with both his fine euphonium playing and his warm and friendly personality and will surely be missed.
All members of the Middleton band organisation offer their most sincere condolences to Geoff’s family and friends at this sad and difficult time.
More information about Geoff’s playing career and details regarding Geoff’s funeral on Monday 27th October can be found on the West Yorkshire Brass website.
