Middleton Band once again stepped back in time for the fun filled East Lancashire Railway’s (ELR) 1940’s weekend event.
On Monday 26th May, the band played a 1940’s Proms themed concert at a packed out St Paul’s church, Ramsbottom to conclude the ELR 1940’s bank holiday weekend.
The band played a short programme of music such as 1914, 633 squadron, Keep Smiling Through, The Dambusters and Saving Private Ryan before concluding with our last night of the proms set. The audience enjoyed joining in with Fantasia on British Sea songs, Jerusalem, There’ll Always be an England, Pomp and Circumstance (Land of Hope and Glory).
Huge thanks go to our guest players today who included freelance players and also players from Besses Boys Band, Tottington Public Band, South Yorkshire Police Band and 2nd Rossendale Scout Band. Your help is greatly appreciated and we couldn’t have done it without you.
This was the 16th year of this extremely popular event, attracting a whole range of visiting re- enactors and 1940’s enthusiasts as well as the general public each year. Middleton Band were extremely proud to be taking part as one of the many attractions over the weekend which also included afternoon dances set to 40s swing, vintage and retro fairs, ENSA entertainers, period vehicle displays, battle re-enactments, a military parade and much more!
